In this series I explore the country of South Africa through portraiture. I chose to focus on the children, whose job it will be to protect South Africa’s recently established freedoms. As you look at these children’s faces, examine the joy in them as well as the hardship. All of the children I photographed live in townships in varying degrees of poverty; there is a possibility that not all of them will become adults. Yet each one has happiness, strength and beauty. In this series, I hope to share the power and light that I saw within these children.
